How would you best help academically underachieving boys, (12 - 17 y.o.), in High Schools?

I am a teacher, and my school is currently researching strategies to identify and best ist academically underachieving boys. I would appreciate feedback from people of all ages, as the best answers may come from a perspective I cannot give. Thanks in anticipation.
