What is the proper way to argue here on Yahoo!Answers, in your own opinion? Was I out of line?

So you stated your opinion bluntly. Good for you! Some people like candor; others can't handle it. In re: the latter group, it's not your responsibility to tailor your style of address to accommodate their insecurities. That's how the whole social/cultural nightmare of "PC-ness" originated.
